Up north!
Yay!
Hoping that 2020 will be a year when the Uncon doesn't clash with my only other regular weekend event in the whole year!

We're going!
Years since I have been to an Uncon. So glad we can finally make one, got us both booked in.

a theme day. So unless I quite my job the UnCon will remain a dream forever :-)

Not forever I hope. There will be others that won't fall on that weekend in the future. Maybe not Newcastle but somewhere nice where we can eventually meet up :-)

This would've been spo much fun, but I don't even dare trying to plan a trip to the UK at the moment. :-(

Tickets and hotel booked!

Tickets and hotel booked!

Yay! Notification received. I'm unable to update our webpage for a week or so. Your details will be added once normal service is resumed ;-)

Thank you!

Newcastle is my FAVOURITE city ever, and I am aiming to go back this year... Hopefully it would be around this time, too! :D

Still hoping that I can make this Uncon but making no travel plans at the moment.

Early Bird tickets available unt

Is it possible to extend the date for tickets? I still hope it will take place *hugs*

Yes. I'm currently thinking mid or end of July. I will need to discuss with the Treasurer. Once decided I'll update both the website and eventbrite.

We had planned to be much further on with the schedule etc by now but everything went on hold in March, hopefully it'll get moving again very soon :-)

hopefully it'll get moving again very soon :-)

I really hope this can go ahead too.

...I am going to see what my job is going to be like before purchasing a ticket/train fare etc.

They are saying that they won't take payment if the event can't go ahead, in case anyone is worried about booking.

Thanks. I'm booked in too :)

I booked this morning. They confirmed that no payment would be taken if the Uncon couldn't go ahead.

16 years on bookcrossing and I’ve never made a convention or uncon! Hopefully the travel restrictions will allow me to get there....

Fingers crossed :-)

Of course none of us yet know what relaxation of the current rules will be in place by then.

I have heard from Eventbrite and there is a way to ensure refunds can be undertaken should it be necessary to cancel this year.

As far as I'm aware accommodation at the Maldron is not charged until arrival but if booking please confirm their policy. greenbadger had reassurance given that there will be no charge when booking hers recently.

Hope to see you all there :)

I phoned The Maldron on Friday as I couldn't find any confirmation of my booking and to check the cancellation policy. They said there was a 21 day cancellation on my booking. Is any one else aware of this?

My confirmation email doesn't state that there is a time limit. Have you received the confirmation email stating 21 days?

I'm assuming you booked under the Bookcrossing event. If you wish I can contact the event organiser at the Maldron and clarify the situation. I would need your full name and dates you have booked. PM me the details if you'd like me to clarify.

I need to get them to resend the email, I can't find it at all. I'll get back to you when I have it. Thanks!

Now I know this is going ahead I will get the hotel booked.

Yes the Government announced that conferences can go ahead from October. The room we have booked seats up to 80 normally so we should have no problem carrying out current COVID secure guidance. :-)

Signed up as this may now go ahead

Today is the last day to get a £5 reduction on those tickets. :-)

The webpage has been updated to give more information on how we intend to socially distance throughout the event. (Note: this may change depending on Government announcements.)

Diane, could you include a link to the website in that please?

It is such a pity but I won’t make it to the UnCon, I don’t feel comfortable flying...

I‘ve had my room booked since January, I am so sad

Such a shame but with quarantine popping up all the time, even if you felt comfortable, it wouldn't be a good idea.

It's sad but it's sensible.

and I'm so sorry...
Apparently people from Switzerland have to quarantine for two weeks when arriving in UK, or so my sister and other English friends have informed me. Why, I don't understand, as we have very few confirmed cases now and hardly any deaths, just one this week. That alone makes it difficult for me to come, as I don't want to spend two weeks locked down in my sister's bungalow. But even worse is that direct flights from Geneva to Newcastle have been cancelled - I would have to fly to Manchester or Edinburgh.
So, very sadly, I have to tell you I can't come. (And I'm secretly hoping you postpone the whole UnCon for a year...)

Ahh I'm so sorry. Travel is certainly becoming harder. We too have been hit by Easyjet pulling out of Newcastle! The quarantine is also making it much harder as it seems to happen with very little notice :-(

Who knows for sure what will happen in the next few weeks let alone a year, however we will be keeping everyone informed as soon as we can .

We too have been hit by Easyjet pulling out of Newcastle!

Oh yes, I just read more about it, I didn't realise they were pulling out altogether, that's terrible. Let's hope it's just temporary and they can open up again.

Just like over-the-moon, I live in Switzerland and would have to be on a 14 days quarantine... Let's see if the restrictions are lifted in a couple of weeks - I might travel spontaneously if that's ok! And, of course, I hope that the Unconvention can still take place!

Scotland and England have different quarantine rules so keep a look at both of them. Maybe you could fly to Edinburgh and take a train to Newcastle even if England has Switzerland on the list. Not just because I am Scottish, but I have more faith in Nicola that Boris.

Easyjet still have flights from Geneva to Edinburgh and Manchester but combining Newcastle, a week with my sister in Redcar and returning home is just too much hassle (and a lot more expensive than the original £20 flight GVA-Newcastle).

I'm hoping we will hear another airline will take over the easyjet flights at Newcastle soon. Fingers crossed before the convention and that quarantine is lifted too. It would be lovely to see you again :-)

As the numbers attending the Uncon seem to be falling rather than rising it seems more and more likely the Uncon will be postponed. So we have today decided to cancel the hotel.
Hopefully next year more people will feel confident about attending/travelling.

Teachie, Mr Teachie

But we had people just signing up on Friday! Don't do it......

Having spoken to the hotel co-coordinator on Friday the uncon can still go ahead under current guidance. So we aren't going to postpone unless Boris changes the rules between now and the 1st October. As already said, people are still booking and last year we even had some book the day before. Fingers crossed more will book shortly. :-)

For anyone concerned about cleaning, I have already offered to provide hand sanitiser for around the room and book buffet. I will go further and offer to donate a tube of hand sanitiser to be added to every goodie bag. Plus I have a surface sanitiser which is a long-lasting antimicrobial coating that bonds to surfaces, killing 99.99% of germs and protects for up to 30 days. I am willing to treat all 'hot spots', ie door handles in the rooms we will be using if requested.

Noo!
I now hate all the idiots who had house parties.

me too!

I'm seething however still hopeful .

Speaking to the hotel again next week to see if latest changes will mean they can no longer run conferences. If that is the case, then all our hard work will be for nothing :-)

Not for nothing! We can just postpone rather than cancel. :)

Absolutely x

If you do postpone, it will certainly go in my diary for next year! Gutted to be missing it this year.

You can have weddings with 30 guests so a bookcrosser needs to get married while at the hotel.

Go ahead Carol :-) But I would be awfully sorry to miss that!

It has been postponed to 2021.

The wedding is off then.

Yes. Finally had to postpone due to local lockdown restrictions. The new date will be Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd October 2021.

Tickets already purchased will be transferred over to the new event unless you contact me for a refund.

I will be updating the web page and eventbrite during the week. I will then add a new forum post too.

Sad but I guess inevitable. Staying safe and getting this pandemic under control is so important and hopefully we can all meet up again next year !! Thanks to all the organisers and the hard work they put in !!

A shame, but not unexpected.
My thanks to all the organisers for their hard work. New dates are in my diary!

You and my one other weekend event I regularly go to, have both released your dates for 2021 and yet again you both sadly clash!! I will hopefully get back to the Uncon one year! :(

That is such a shame! Yes whoever runs the next one might do late September . Fingers crossed.
