I'm always drawn to WWII related books, and this certainly didn't make an exception... The blurb seemed most interesting, so how could I leave it behind as there's plenty of space in my luggage?

In a way I kept wondering why fiction should be written of an era and a topic that could provide millions of haunting and intriguing stories from real life. Then again, why not when the result is as heart-wrenching and vivid as Small Island.
