Katy Carr is untidy, tall and gangling, planning for the day when she will be "beautiful and beloved, and amiable as an angel". An accidental fall from a swing seems to threaten her hopes for the future, but Katy struggles to overcome her difficulties with pluck, vitality and good humour.

I had to re-read this story from my childhood before sending it on, just to remind myself what Katy did do. It's a very nice story & I'm glad to have read it again. I did have to ignore the religious overtones which I wouldn't have noticed much as a child. Pain being the great teacher. Ugh! Oh, well, it was published in 1872 & stands the test of time pretty well.
