Set in Newcastle, the accents and expressions are spot on and each chapter starts with the location - definitely catching the spirit of the city. Falklands veteran Jimmy has enough problems in his own life, what with being homeless and estranged from his wife and daughter, and his mantra is 'not my fight' as he tries to avoid bringing further trouble on himself. But when he witnesses a murder somehow he can't just let things slide, and when the police won't listen to his statement he finds himself helping the daughter of the missing man investigate. Meanwhile Jimmy's own past is coming back to haunt him. This is a great thriller, I couldn't put it down. Jimmy and his friends (not to mention Dog) really come to life, there's a fast moving plot and plenty to think about.
