A book about the slow disintegration of a family. Two young children are left with elderly relatives when their mother kills herself, and eventually find themselves in the care of their aunt, Sylvie. As Lucille breaks away towards normality, Ruthie finds herself more and more like Sylvie, living a transient life. Lots of description about the remote town that they live, and the water, but I have to say that I found this deadly dull and disliked all the characters. There's a brief humorous incident when Sylvie steals a boat but other than that it's a depressing book in which nothing happens.
However others in my book group really enjoyed it so maybe I just wasn't in the mood. Hoping this copy finds a reader who enjoys it more.
